Every device has two sides. One side is for DISTAL and one for MESIAL. They are easy to tell apart, as each side is marked.

The 3 devices are color-coded according to size and typical application of restorative material:

Yellow: 1.0 mm diameter for solid zirconia, gold and other "monolithic" materials.

Red: 1.5mm diameter for PFM, zirconia and other layered crown materials.

Blue: 2.0 mm for porcelain (ceramic) and CAD / CAM crowns.
